Just over two weeks ago Conservative MPs voted to let a fellow Conservative off the hook after he had been found to have lobbied on behalf of companies paying him £8,000 a month.
This was a clear case of corruption, but the Conservatives thought the rules didn’t apply to them.
Earlier this week Labour proposed a number of new measures which would have banned MPs from being paid directors or consultants for companies, but once again Conservative MPs voted against these proposals and decided to kick any reform into the long grass.
One of the MPs who benefits from a second job is the Conservative MP for Southampton Itchen who has made £18,000 since May 2020 working as a consultant for a planning company, whilst he was supposed to be working hard for his constituents.
Throughout my 23 years as an MP I have never taken a second job. I have one job which is to represent and help my constituents.
