The government’s handling of the crisis in Afghanistan has been nothing short of a disaster. Nothing illustrates this more than Dominic Raab’s refusal to pick up the phone to help the brave translators seek safe passage out of the country.

On top of this the government’s re-settlement scheme falls woefully short of what is needed to meet the crisis at hand. We need to provide safe and legal routes for those fleeing the Taliban.

As a city we need to be doing our part in welcoming Afghani refugees as we have done with those seeking sanctuary in the past. And for my part I am working with and will continue to work with existing Afghani locals who are worried about their families and friends at this very difficult time for the community here and abroad.
