Alan Whitehead MP Working with you in Southampton Test
In the last few years I have had more and more people, particularly women, contact me about the lack of affordable childcare available. Many of them want to take on more hours at work but would see their earnings wiped out through childcare. In some cases I’ve spoken to people who would be worse off the more they worked. One woman felt trapped on Universal Credit because she didn’t have the £300-400 to pay up front until her first pay packet came through.
I welcome The Labour Party’s policy of expanding free childcare to all 2-4 year olds. This would benefit over 3000 children and their parents in my constituency and change the lives of many.
