For many people the summer holidays are something to look forward to, lots of time for families to spend together without the stress of homework or the school run.
However for some families the 6 weeks, without school dinners and often with added child care and other costs are to be dreaded. This problem is getting worse every year under the current government. We were promised an end to austerity yet every summer children and their parents are going hungry due to these added cost and extra meals to provide.
Add in the rising cost of food due to a weakened pound and this summer could be the toughest yet for families.
We are now a few weeks into the summer holidays and this is a time where budgets have been stretched as much as they can in the early weeks and where holiday hunger is really starting to bite.
Southampton City Council have come up with this list of resources if you or anyone you know are struggling this summer with extra food costs. Thanks to the community in Southampton for pulling together and helping out. Resources include help from Kendal Kaff Radian Community Southampton Cissioty Min Solent Credit Union
