Women and technology awards

1st November 2006

Dr Alan Whitehead has congratulated Southampton’s Reena Pau who has been nominated for this year’s BlackBerry Women & Technology Awards.

The annual Awards, will be held in London on Thursday 2nd November and celebrate the achievements of women using technology both within and beyond the IT sector, bringing their outstanding contributions to business via the use of technology into the public eye.

The Awards look to honour the individual (or company) that has achieved success and competitive advantage through innovation, management and return on investment via technology.

Commenting on the nominees, Dr Whitehead said:

“This is a fantastic achievement for Reena. The awards allow all nominees the opportunity to showcase their achievements on the national stage. All the nominees are beacons in their fields, helping to build a first class technology sector in the UK which will drive investment in the future.

I wish Reena the very best of luck for the ceremony, where I am sure she will be an excellent ambassador for the business community in Southampton.”

Government Minister for Women Meg Munn, who will deliver the keynote address at the Awards ceremony said:

"As these awards testify, there is a wealth of female talent to be found in the technology sector that's growing day by day.

“However we also know that seventy per cent of women with science and technology qualifications are not working within the profession - we need to be doing more to ensure that we not only attract more women to the sector but also give them the means to progress."
