Praising Young Football Talent
27th April 2006
Alan Whitehead, MP for Southampton Test, will today present two local schools with footballs won by their pupils for their superb football skills.
Pupils from Bellemoor and Oaklands Schools won the footballs from a Solent Skills Quest event at St. Mary's Stadium in January. The event included advice from an FA Level One Coach and was funded by McDonalds.
Dr Whitehead is looking forward to meeting with pupils and discussing their experiences and he will also be doing a question and answer session with pupils from both schools.
Dr Whitehead, who recently kept two clean sheets aiding the parliamentary football team to second place in an event to raise awareness for the Special Olympics, said:
"This is an excellent example of schools, businesses and sports clubs working well together in Southampton. I and other Labour MPs are currently working to make it easier for local businesses and schools to 'link up' and provide both educational and recreational activities for young people which can be hugely important in their personal development. "
He added:
"I am proud to be able to present these footballs to the skilled footballers of the future from both Bellemoor and Oaklands school. I was very impressed with the talent they have shown and only slightly jealous that they are already better footballers than me! Congratulations to all the winners!"
