SOUTHAMPTON ENERGY REPORT PUBLISHED

Alan Whitehead MP has welcomed the decision of Southampton City Council to set aside money for the Strategic Reserve to look into the compulsory purchase of the Civil Service Sports Ground. This move follows a long campaign by Alan Whitehead MP and Freemantle Councillor Simon Letts to get the Council to purchase the land for community use.

Alan Whitehead MP has published a report following tEnergy Report Coverhe first Southampton Energy Summit in November 2003 attended by over a hundred people. The Southampton Energy Summit report includes articles from those who spoke at the event as well as results of the workshops covering the Conservation of Energy, Affordable Warmth, Sustainable Energy, and Energy & Business.

The report highlights action points for the city including:
· The need to raise awareness of the benefits of energy efficiency and advice and support which is currently available
· The need to target city planners and Councilors with information on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
· The establishment of a working partnership to identify people living in cold or inefficient homes.

Alan Whitehead MP, for Southampton Test, said
“I hope the summit and report will serve as a point where energy is placed at the heart of the local agenda. Energy supply and payment is becoming increasingly localised and Southampton leads the field with innovative energy projects like the geothermal well and the forthcoming Millbrook Community Heating scheme. I hope we can continue to build on these successes and promote Southampton as an energy efficient city.”
