Save Money, save power, save the planet

On Thursday 20 November 2003 Alan Whitehead will host the first energy summit in Southampton

Alan Whitehead, MP for Southampton Test, said
“The Energy Summit will look at the whole picture of energy in our city. Southampton has a number of pioneering energy projects to be proud of. They show that alternative use of energy and conservation can gain you more for less. Can Southampton be a beacon of intelligent energy use that will provide an example to other cities?”

Speakers will include:

Energy Minister Stephen Timms (video presentation)
Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust
Gary Foster, South East Regional Manager, The Carbon Trust
Dr Bahaj, University of Southampton
Peter Daley, Network Liaison Officer, Eaga Partnership Limited
Alan Whitehead MP, Chair of the Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group.

An energy summit questionnaire has been sent out to local businesses and organisations to find out what they are doing to reduce their level of energy, the reasons behind reducing energy, and awareness of key issues. This will be fed into the energy summit.

Following on from the energy summit a publication will be produced. This will include an outline of the discussions, visions for the future from the summit, the questionnaire results and details of all the projects already happening in Southampton.
