Opening of the new Lordshill Community Centre

September 5th 2009

Alan spoke at the opening of the new Lordshill Community Centre on Saturday. He said that when the original centre closed many people assumed 'that was it' and the building would never be replaced, so the building of the new centre was a real tribute to the hard work of local campaigners. It was a fantastic day- thanks again for all who attended!

The original press note about the opening of the centre is below:

The new Lordshill Community Centre will be opened by Alan Whitehead, Member of Parliament for Southampton Test, on Saturday 5th September 2009 at 1pm.

It will be an afternoon of fun music, free refreshments, a bouncy castle, face painting, tombola, a magician, and much more.

Community Association Chair-Person Mike Holder said “After many years of difficulty, and a lot of hard work from the community we have at long last in place a well earned and well deserved new Lordshill Community Centre”.

Mike Holder continued: “The afternoon will be about past and present leading community activist, local councillors, Neighbourhood Services, and members of the association having a good and enjoyable time everyone past and present deserves a pat on the back”.

Alan Whitehead MP added "The whole Community Association has kept the pressure up for this new centre over a number of years, so it is great to see all their hard-work finally bear fruit.”
