Southampton's first ever Energy Saving Workshop

February 5th 2009

Dr Alan Whitehead, Member of Parliament for Southampton Test, has organised a workshop and advice surgery for constituents worried about their energy bills, the first of its kind in Southampton.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday 18th February, from 11am – 3pm, at the Highfield Church Hall, Highfield Lane Southampton SO17 1RL.  Dr Whitehead will make a short speech opening the workshop at 11am.

Constituents can come in at any time and get free advice on reducing their energy bills, including grants to permanently improve their home’s energy efficiency.

Advice will be available from representatives from Southampton City Council, Eaga, Scottish & Southern Energy, Age Concern, and other agencies.

Constituents will also be able to pick up free copies of Dr Whitehead’s Energy Saver Handbook, which gives a detailed breakdown of all the different kinds of help available to reduce all our energy bills, from Winter Fuel Payments to social tariffs to government grants.

The workshop is open to all of Dr Whitehead’s constituents in Southampton Test.  No appointment is necessary.

Dr Whitehead said: “I wanted to give my constituents a chance to talk face-to-face with experts about how they can reduce their bills, as I know working out what you are entitled can be a confusing process.”

He added:

“This workshop is the first of its kind in Southampton, and if there is enough interest I will look to organise more in the future, as reducing both fuel poverty and our carbon emissions are both vitally important to Southampton’s future.”
