Partial victory in Town Depot campaign

August 7th 2009

Alan Whitehead has welcomed the City Council’s indications that the Town Depot waste services will not be relocated to a residential area near Test Lane.

However, Alan has also written to the Council to ask them to confirm that they are not planning to split the waste disposal services and still relocate some at Test Lane, even if the main Depot’s home is elsewhere.

Acting on requests from local residents, Dr Whitehead wrote to the City Council in April laying out in detail his objections to the relocation of waste disposal services to Test Lane.

Dr Whitehead’s new letter to the Council regarding the relocation of the Depot is below:

Dear Cllr Dean,

Re: Town Depot Relocation

I am writing to ask you to clarify a report that appeared in the Daily Echo last week regarding the relocation of Town Depot.

I welcome the fact that the Council has undertaken to purchase an alternative site for Council waste services at Dock Gate 20.  However, my understanding is that the Council has still not yet ruled out the possibility of relocating some of its waste services to the site at Test Lane, even if the primary site is designated elsewhere.

It would be in the interests of residents living in the area, I think, if you could confirm that the Council has no plans to relocate any of the services currently located at Town Depot to the Test Lane site.

I look forward to your reply,

Yours sincerely,

Dr Alan Whitehead MP
