Long awaited progress on Civil Service sports ground
August 6th 2009
Alan Whitehead MP has welcomed the news that the City Council has finally moved to purchase the former Civil Service sports ground.
Dr Whitehead said:
“It has been six years since Labour first voted to allocate funds to buy the sports ground. Since then Freemantle residents have done a fantastic job in keeping up a strong sense of community ownership of the ground, despite the Council cutting the support they give to local community groups. It is a real victory for Freemantle and all those who have helped organise events on and for the field for the last few years.
”For some time I have been in correspondence with the Council regarding how we might ensure a purchase of the sports ground went through quickly and smoothly. I will continue to keep the pressure up to get the deal done as soon as possible.”
