Youth MPs to grill Alan

22nd August 2008

Members of Southampton’s Youth Parliament will have the chance to grill city MP Alan Whitehead next week, at a special Q&A session at Connexions.

Dr Whitehead will meet the 10 members of the city’s Youth Parliament and answer 20 questions from them about issues affecting young people in Southampton.

The Q&A will come shortly before Dr Whitehead attends Labour’s General Conference later in September, where a proposal to adopt a policy of lowering the voting age to 16 is likely to be a hot topic of debate.

Dr Whitehead said:

“It’s very important that MPs make ourselves accountable to young people- both because of their needs as citizens today, and because they are the ones who will be most affected by our decisions on issues like climate change and pensions.”
