Southampton Children's Heart Unit Saved!

Alan Whitehead MP has welcome the decision of the independent Safe and Sustainable Review into Child Heart Surgery to save the heart unit based in Southampton.
The decision follows a long campaign by Southampton MPs, Councillors, families and medical professionals to highlight the quality and breadth of support for the Southampton Unit.
Dr Whitehead said:
“This is the right result for Southampton and clearly the best of the options on offer for the whole country. The parents, children and medical teams who worked across Southampton to make this case should be very proud.
“But we must remember this reconfiguration will still have a real impact on the workloads and demands placed upon our heart unit.
That’s why I’ll continue to do all I can to listen to the concerns of local medical professionals and to challenge the overall cuts to NHS funding in Southampton.”
