Alan calls for independent review of nuclear negotiations

Alan Whitehead has called for an independent review of the Government's negotiations over a public subsidy for nuclear power stations.

Alan Whitehead has called for an independent review of the Government's negotiations over a public subsidy for nuclear power stations.

Dr Whitehead has written to the National Audit Office, calling on them to investigate whether the Government's current closed-door negotiations with French-owned energy giant EDF will provide good value for the UK energy bill payers.

The Government's current negotiations could lock bill payers in to subsidising nuclear power for 40 years or more, as well as shouldering a disproportionate level of economic risk in the building of new nuclear power stations from EDF to British consumers.
