A trip to Southampton's geothermal plant and my record on green issues

It was great to show Caroline Flint round Southampton's geothermal plant the other day with Southampton Itchen candidate, Rowenna Davis.

I helped set the plant up in my past role as leader of the council (many moons ago). Since then it's been providing the city centre and residents with clean, green heat.

I've been a passionate supporter of renewable energy and green issues during my time in Parliament. As one of the co-authors of the Climate Change Act, I have worked tirelessly to hold the Government to account on its failed promise to be the “greenest government ever”. I have strengthened the Energy Bill (which encourages renewables), backed a moratorium on fracking, strongly opposed fossil fuel subsidies and worked with Labour colleagues to formulate our energy efficiency plan. This year I was awarded a Green Ribbon Award in recognition of my work in this area.
